Supermarket in New York Updates Storefront Entrance with Automatic Doors
March 03, 2025
The challenge?
The existing out-swinging doors were not ideal for automation.
Door Control, Inc., a part of Door Services Corporation, assessed the site and recommended a more efficient and cost-effective alternative: Horton Automatics Sliding Door System. This solution would not only improve accessibility and convenience but also enhance the store’s overall efficiency. To accommodate the existing structure, a contractor modified the storefront by cutting out the block knee wall and utilizing Horton Automatics narrow jambs to work around the original swing door jambs, which were embedded in brick columns. Extended-length headers were also installed to align with the existing storefront.
The result?
A seamless integration that left the original storefront, swing frames, and glass intact—reducing demolition and finish work. By eliminating the SX panels, the new system provides a wider 35-inch net opening, exceeding the previous swing door clearance by two inches. The supermarket owner was thrilled with the outcome and has already engaged Door Control, Inc. to explore a similar upgrade for a second property in Port Henry.

With this upgrade, the supermarket benefits from greater accessibility, enhanced customer flow, and a modernized storefront—all while avoiding unnecessary demolition.
